The WAR IS FINALLY OVER!
In 1918, German commander,Erich Ludendorff, announced that if Germany was to win the war then the allies had to be defeated on the Western Front before the arrival of American troops. Although his offensive was initially successful the allies held ground and eventually pushed the Germans back. By 1918, there were strikes in Berlin and other cities protesting about the effects of the war on the population and the country's economy. The British naval blockade of German ports meant that thousands of people were starving and out of work. Socialists were waiting for the chance to seize Germany as they had in Russia. In October 1918, Ludendorff resigned but the German navy refused to accept defeat. The end was near however. On November 9th,1918,German ruler,Kaiser Wilhelm II accepted defeat and the war had finally ended. On January 18th, 1919, President Wilson suggested a plan for peace, called the Fourteen Points plan. Part of the plan called for forming the League of Nations to solve disagreements between countries by talking about the problems instead of fighting wars.
